Sheikh Zayed Mosque,
Home to the world's largest carpet and currently the third largest mosque in the world, the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in the United Arab Emirates' capital city of Abu Dhabi is a grand example of classic Islamic and Mughal architecture.
Building started in 1996 and was completed in December of 2007 at a cost of $545 million. The structure itself can accommodate up to forty-one thousand people and features eighty-two different domes. The carpet in the main prayer hall (measuring 60,570 square feet) took one thousand two hundred Iranian carpet knotters two years to complete.
The mosque remains a pivotal center of worship in the country and an awe-inspiring destination for travelers across the globe.*
